DAY 4 FREEBIE

ANOTHER APPRECIATION FREEBIE!

How was your day? This morning we arrived to a bag of goldfish crackers that said something like, "You are "O-FISH-ily a great teacher, or something like that! Darn it, I keep forgetting to take photos and my camera is right on my desk now!! It was cute, I loved it! As I said before.....it's just the simplest things that can be the grandest! Hey....I made have just branded a quote. hehee!

A PEEK AT MY WEEK VISUAL PLANS

So much going on!!! You would think with the year coming to an end that things would be slowing down, but just the opposite! Just this month we have field day, NV reading week, science/art night, staff development, awards assemblies, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and the BIG event.....my Disability Awareness Day this Friday!!   

I'm so excited to finally be putting on this event! I have wanted to do it for a couple of years now. 

Students will get to rotate throughout six different stations, participating in hands-on activities that will allow them to experience what it's like to have a disability in the following areas:

Physical
communication
vision
hearing
learning disability
intellectual disability

And the best part.....my students and their parent(s) are going to be working the stations.  I'm hoping the event will not only create an awareness, but also decrease bullying! Stay tuned after the event for photos and info on hosting your own Disability Awareness Day!

So excited to finally link up with DeeDee's "Peek at my Week Linky." Visual plans are so ideal for my classroom because with two aides, they are always asking me what things mean on my lesson plans. The visuals are going to eliminate any confusion and provide a clear picture of what I want the students to do. 

Finally.....a CURRICULUM FOR SPECIAL EDUCATORS!

Super excited about my new subscription to News 2 You!! Let me tell you....this is a godsend for the special education classroom! I teach special needs children in grades 1-5 and they have a wide range of disabilities. My classroom consist of autism, downs, OHI, LD, and EH. There is no curriculum mapping! As sped teachers, we do truly have to reinvent the wheel year after year, month after month, and sometimes day after day! Not to mention, since students can be in my class for up to five years, I can't reuse activities every year, but must stay on a five year cycle. 

With News 2 You, the lessons are done for me each week and every lesson is differentiated in FOUR different levels, so I can now teach the same lesson to all of my students, yet they can participate at their level!!! Awesome! What else is great is that Social Studies and Science is incorporated, which I never had time to incorporate before. I cannot rave enough about this program! It is just absolutely a dream come true for the special educator! You can go {here} to see for yourself! 

Believe it or not, it gets even better! They also offer the "Unique Learning System" which is a complete standards-based curriculum aligned to the Common Core and specifically designed for students with disabilities!
